A group of people at a shared dinner

Verdict: One of the best tools for getting out of the house and talking to new people without organising anything. Not really a dating app, and the reshuffled tables make lasting friendships depend on you.

How it works

Answer a personality questionnaire, book a dinner — typically Wednesday at 7pm — and Timeleft seats you with four to six strangers. The night before you see your tablemates' industries; the restaurant is revealed shortly before. Dinners run about three hours, often followed by a bar.

Many cities also have drinks, coffee, runs and walks, women-only dinners, and singles formats. London, for example, has dinners Wednesday and Friday, women-only on Mondays and singles dinners on Tuesdays.

Subscription required (≈ $20–26/month in the US) plus your meal (typically €20–40). A no-show costs part of the monthly fee.
